As the largest human hair raw material distribution center in China, the wig industry in Maji Town, Taihe County originated in the late Qing Dynasty, with a century-old historical accumulation. Its raw material share accounts for 70% of the national market, forming an acquisition network centered on Maji Town, covering the whole country and extending to Southeast Asia, Europe and America, and building a business pattern of "buying globally and selling globally". Currently, it gathers more than 4,000 wig processing, production and sales enterprises and individual households, including 49 large-scale enterprises. In 2024, the annual output value exceeded 10 billion yuan, the export volume reached 120 million US dollars, driving nearly 60,000 jobs in surrounding areas. In recent years, it has promoted the industrial transformation from family workshop-style rough processing to professional and large-scale fine processing, built a modern wig product industrial park, been approved as a national foreign trade transformation and upgrading demonstration base, and become the only characteristic town in Anhui Province based on hair art culture.
