India Calls For Restrictions On Raw Human-hair Exports Amid Global Supply-chain Shifts

India Calls For Restrictions On Raw Human-hair

Indian hair product associations are urging the national government to impose restrictions on raw human-hair exports in FY26. Nearly 98% of unprocessed Indian human-hair is shipped to Myanmar for preliminary processing, then flows into Chinese wig factories for deep manufacturing. India exported about $940 million worth of human-hair materials this fiscal year. Local industry hopes to retain raw materials domestically to build local processing capacity and create over one million jobs. The move may bring new volatility to global human-hair raw-material prices in the coming quarters.
